Rest area time limits

There is no single national time limit for truck parking at a rest area. The state, and sometimes the individual facility, sets it. The limit that matters is the one posted at that lot.

This site does not publish those limits. A state will be added only after the rule is copied from a current official source, such as a statute or that state’s transportation department. Hours are not filled in from memory or from a forum.

Jason’s Law required a national look at truck parking supply. It did not set rest-area hours. FHWA’s overview: Truck parking. Facility rows on this site that come from that survey were compiled April 9, 2019, and they do not include a time-limit field.

For a 10-hour break, compare the sign with a truck stop in rest area or truck stop for 10 hours. A short posted limit is a bad place to start a 34-hour restart.
